UT Austin is currently hosting a group of 20 Saudi students in the KAUST Foundation Year Program during the 2013-2014 school year. This spring semester, the students have the opportunity to participate in one of four student-led committees: Volunteer Committee, Social Committee, Yearbook Committee and Sports Committee. The purpose of the committees is to foster skills related to event planning, organization, team building, and leadership. Through these committees, students contribute to the program in various ways from designing yearbooks to coordinating soccer matches.
This past weekend, the Volunteer and Social Committees coordinated a full day of activities. In the morning, students worked with the Lions Club UT chapter to clean up Bartholomew Creek. After the event, the KAUST students visited Mount Bonnell and Mayfield Park and then went kayaking at Lady Bird Lake.
The KAUST students did a great job coordinating the events. We look forward to seeing what comes next for the KAUST student committees. We hope that many of the students continue to be involved in student-led organizations when they enter universities throughout the country as freshmen next year.
