Academic Training for J-1 Students

Are you interested in doing a summer internship following your exchange program at UT Austin? Or maybe you are a PhD student who has a Post Doc research opportunity following your graduation? Or maybe you are a degree seeking student wanting to do a summer internship? If you are in the US on a J-1 student visa, J-1 Academic Training is exactly what you need to facilitate your off campus employment.

All international students studying in the US on a J-1 visa are eligible for Academic Training.  Academic Training is a way to receive practical training in your field of study during or immediately following you program of study. You can apply for academic training at any time before the expiration of your DS-2019. The authorization is quick and easy to obtain directly from our office. You will need to have already secured a job in order to apply. You must obtain academic training authorization before you begin any off campus work.

If you are interested in applying for academic training, please take a look at J-1 Academic training handout. If you have additional questions about Academic Training and whether you are eligible, please schedule an appointment with an international student advisor, the Exchange Student Advisor, or the Sponsored Student Advisor.
