ISSS is now accepting applications for the Good Neighbor Scholarship (GNS) for the 2016-2017 academic year! The GNS provides for one year of tuition (fall, spring, and summer) to students who were born in and are residents of a nation in the Western Hemisphere (excluding Cuba and the U.S.). The full list of eligibility requirements are included within the application itself. Incoming UT students, both graduate and undergraduate, are eligible for the GNS, but they must be accepted to The University of Texas at Austin by the time of submission to apply.
Applications for the 2016-2017 academic year must be received by ISSS no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, February 26.
Award decisions will be made by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in early-May 2016 and applicants will be notified of their decision in mid-May 2016 via email.
Please review our website for more details or feel free to post questions below. Good luck!!!

If I do not pass the TOEFL or IELTS test, but I have a good academic record, am I eligible for the scholarship?
Phuoc Bui says
Hi Jorge,
You are eligible for the Good Neighbor Scholarship as long as you have been admitted to UT Austin for a degree-seeking program as an international student from the western hemisphere. You can see all eligible countries at the website linked in the blog.

Hello! If I apply to UT say, in February, can I apply for the scholarship at the same time, even if I don´t know if I´ve been admitted already?
Phuoc Bui says
Hi Andrea,
Only those admitted by the time of the Good Neighbor Scholarship review sessions will be considered eligible applicants for the award. Review sessions of the Good Neighbor Scholarships should occur in early-March.
Marco says
Hello Phuoc,
Would you recommend me applying for the scholarship if I sent my international transfer application a week ago?
Phuoc Bui says
Hi Marco,
I would still recommend you apply if you fully intend on going to UT. Please note that only those admitted by March 15th are eligible to be considered for the Good Neighbor Scholarship.

I was a grateful recipient of the GNS during my undergraduate studies at Texas Southern University. Is my child eligible for the GNS as the offspring of a former international student?
Thanks.
