Time to Check Your I-20 or DS-2019 End Date

If you have an F-1 or J-1 student visa, check the end date on your I-20 or DS-2019. If your I-20 or DS-2019 is ending in May 2016 and you plan to continue your studies in the summer, fall or beyond, you must extend your document before the current end date.

An extension of your I-20 or DS-2019 can be completed up to 6 months in advance of the program end date. Now is a great time to extend your document and beat the rush in May! We will not be able to extend your I-20 or DS-2019 after the end date has passed.

Please review our website for the procedures for renewing your I-20 or DS-2019.

You can check your DS-2019 period in Box 3.

    Hi,
My I20 will expire in July. So should I apply for the new I20 now at IO for the new I20 form or should I just wait as you the email you sent about three weeks ago?

Hello Zhe Zhang! You can extend your I-20 up to 6 months in advance of the expiration date. I recommend extending your I-20 in advance whenever possible. The most common I-20 end dates are May 31, August 31, and December 31. If you have a question about the specific end date on your I-20, please email hotline@austin.utexas.edu with your name, EID and inquiry, or make an appointment to speak with an international student advisor.
