Texas Summer 101

Whether you’re a veteran to the 100º F temperatures or experiencing your first summer in Austin, here are a few important reminders for all of us:

sunBeat the Heat
Drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty. Don’t engage in vigorous activity in the hottest part of the day from 11am – 5pm. Take breaks indoors.

sunscreenUse sunscreen.
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 15.  Apply 15 minutes before you go outside. Reapply every two hours and after swimming or sweating.

mosquitoPrevent mosquito bites.

Stay in places with air conditioning and window screens.  Use plenty of EPA-approved insect repellent. Empty standing water from items like buckets and pools where mosquitoes lay eggs.

swimmingHave Fun!
It may be hot out there, but from movie theaters to swimming pools, there are lots of ways to enjoy the summer in Austin.
