September 16th marks the return of the International Office’s U.S Academic and Culture Immersion Program (ACIP). Fourteen students from Yangtze University will spend three weeks at UT in this intensive program centered around five main components: American culture & intercultural communication, exploratory academic content, leadership workshops, community service, and civic & cultural activities
The IO’s ESL Services will introduce students to American culture and enhance their English language skills via an intercultural communications course. The College of Liberal Arts’ Global Initiative for Leadership & Education has arranged three academic mini-courses focusing on liberal arts & business.
Participants will engage in leadership & team development through a series of workshops led by UT’s own Leadership & Ethics Institute. The groups will served the Austin community through volunteer efforts at the Central Texas Food Bank and Shoal Creek Conservancy.
And of course no trip to Texas would be complete without a little education on local culture and history, so the group will trek to the LBJ Presidential Library & Museum, Texas State Capitol, and the UT Tower. Finally, ACIP 2017 will wrap up with a certificate ceremony at The Carillon here on campus, followed by a trip to the eastern seaboard led by the students’ sponsor, Wuhan Severn Institute.
We’re looking forward to an intense but fun-filled three weeks with this Yangtze University crew!
