Summer 2017 marked the launch of the International Office’s English & Academics for Software Engineering (EASE) Program through a new partnership with the International Education Foundation. Twenty-one students from Nankai , Hunan & Northeastern Universities as well as the University of Electronic Science & Technology of China called Austin home August 6th to 26th. While here, participants learned about current trends in software engineering and developed software projects through an interactive classroom experience led by faculty from the Department of Computer Science; they also honed their technical and scientific English skills in oral & written communication courses provided by ESL Services.
During industry visits to Dropbox, Samgsung R&D & IBM Studios‘ Austin-area offices, EASE participants were able to connect with practitioners in the field–and of course no trip to Texas would be complete without lessons on local culture and history, so the group trekked to the Texas State Capitol, the Blanton Museum of Art, and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library. They finished out their program with a sunset cruise on Ladybird Lake to witness Austin’s infamous bats take flight and enjoyed a delicious Texas-style BBQ at The County Line on the Lake.
We’re eager to welcome our next cohort in 2018!
