I-20 Extensions and Drop Off Process Fall 2017

Is your I-20 expiring, but you need more time to finish your program? It’s time to apply for an extension of your I-20.

You can request an extension up to six months prior to your program end date and it’s important to apply as early as possible. Procedures for applying, including what documents are needed to complete your application, can be found on the ISSS website here.

We have a drop-off process that will save you time when applying for your extension. You will need one additional form, Extension of Stay Drop-Off Service Checklist, to drop off with your documents. Read the checklist carefully (both pages) to ensure everything in your application is accurate and complete. Applications dropped off by Friday at 5 p.m. will be processed by 8 a.m on Friday of the following week. You will receive an email when your Extended I-20 is ready to pick up. There is no same-day processing for Extension Drop-Off Service.

We will soon have the option to submit your Extension Request online. A blog post with details about this new feature is coming soon.

Your I-20 cannot be extended after the end date has passed. Therefore, do not wait until the last minute to turn in your application. If your I-20 end date is between now and January, it’s time to turn in your application!
