Although we want to sail through life without encountering legal problems, circumstances in life occasionally necessitate the assistance of a lawyer. Did you know that the State Bar of Texas* has a useful resource called Lawyer Referral & Information Service (LRIS)?
If you are at a loss as to how to go about finding a lawyer, LRIS may be a good place to start. After providing basic information about your legal issue to LRIS, you will be referred to a lawyer. A key benefit of using this service is that the lawyer you are referred to will provide a 30-minute consultation at an affordable rate.
To make use of LRIS, first visit the LRIS webpage for basic information and then call (800) 252-9690 (Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., CST) for a referral.
There is also an option to get a referral anytime, using the online service, but the automated system may not refer you to a lawyer that matches your specific requirements.
Remember, you do not need to hire the lawyer after the initial consultation session, and it is your choice which lawyer you decide to work with!
* The State Bar of Texas is an administrative agency of the state’s judicial branch that provides educational programs for the legal profession and the public, administers the Minimum Continuing Legal Education program for attorneys, and manages the attorney grievance process.
