Are you an F-1 student who has been offered an internship? It sounds like you need to be approved for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) which allows students to complete employment in conjunction with their academic program. With the launch of myIO, international students under F-1 status will now have an easier time applying for CPT. You will no longer need to run around campus to have forms signed by your department and an international advisor. Instead, you can complete the CPT application process through myIO.
If you want to request CPT authorization through myIO, you will need to provide employer information including an Employment Verification Form or an offer letter from the employer.
In addition, you must indicate how the work authorization will contribute to your curricular program through course credit, co-op, or dissertation research. We will contact your department to verify this.
Once you have submitted your CPT application through myIO, an International Student Advisor will review your submission and contact you if further information is needed. After an advisor approves your work authorization, you will simply need to stop by the International Office to pick up your new I-20.
If you would like to meet with an advisor to process your CPT application in-person, please submit all necessary documents through myIO and schedule an appointment.
We hope this new online service will expedite the CPT authorization process and provide a smoother experience for our students. As always, if you have any questions regarding CPT or the application process, please reach out to our office by emailing us at hotline@austin.utexas.edu or schedule an appointment with an advisor.
