The International Office is holding four separate ITIN drives to adequately prepare international students and scholars for the rapidly approaching 2018 tax season.
What is an ITIN and Why do I need one?
ITIN, or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, is a taxpayer ID number for international students who are ineligible for a Social Security Number and who do not currently have an employment offer.
ITIN’s are necessary in order to file a tax return, which is required for those students with scholarships, fellowships, and stipends. Additionally, an ITIN is required for students to receive scholarships, fellowships, and stipends in their second year at UT if they do not have an SSN. ITIN processing generally takes about 4 to 6 weeks, so it is important to have your ITIN well before the fax filing deadline of April 15th!
The International Office will be holding four ITIN drives during the spring 2019 semester:
- February 11, 2019
- February 18, 2019
- February 25, 2019
- March 4, 2019
Time: 9 am -11 am
Location: International Office
