Attention F-1 and J-1 students! Is your I-20 or DS-2019 expiring this semester? Do you need more time to finish your studies? If so, you will need to extend your I-20/DS-2019. ISSS can help you with that.
First, you’ll need to get in touch with your academic advisor. Ask for their email address and let them know ISSS will be contacting them to confirm when you will be graduating and why you need the extension. Next, log into myIO and complete the extension request. Please remember that myIO does not work in Chrome and is best accessed via the Firefox web browser. You will need to complete the Academic Verification and Financial Verification e-forms. J-1 students will also need to complete an insurance verification form. After you complete and submit your request, an ISSS advisor will review it and let you know when your updated I-20/DS-2019 is ready.
Don’t let your document expire! We recommend submitting your request as soon as possible, with the final deadline being two weeks before your current I-20/DS-2019 end date. Please keep in mind that ISSS receives a high volume of requests at this time of year, so we appreciate your patience as we work through them all. Rest assured that if you submitted yours on time and it was complete, it will be processed.
Want to know more about program extensions? Check out the information for F-1 students and J-1 students. If you still have questions, you can email hotline@austin.utexas.edu or schedule an appointment with an immigration advisor.
Best wishes for the rest of the semester!
