Whether you decide to file your OPT application with USCIS online or via mail, you need to complete the ISSS process and obtain an OPT I-20 before submitting your application to USCIS. The OPT I-20 is a required part of your application to USCIS; without it, your application will be denied. Students who file their USCIS application without completing the ISSS process will need to complete the OPT process in myIO immediately, obtain an OPT I-20 and submit a brand new OPT application to USCIS.
