Texas Global International Student and Scholar Services will be providing Individual Tax Payer Identification Number (ITIN) application assistance appointments starting Oct. 19, 2021, every Tuesday 2:00–4:00 p.m. Appointments for this service are required and can be made in advance online.
What is an ITIN?
An ITIN, or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, is a taxpayer ID number for international students who are not eligible for a Social Security Number (SSN) and who do not currently have an employment offer.
Why do I need an ITIN?
ITINs are necessary to file a tax return, which is required for those students with scholarships, fellowships, or stipends. Additionally, an ITIN is required for students to receive scholarships, fellowships, or stipends in their second year at UT if they do not have an SSN.
ITIN processing generally takes about a month, so it is important to have your ITIN well before the tax filing deadline of April 15!
How do I get help with an ITIN?
ITIN application assistance is available by appointment only. Be sure to bring your passport and I-20 or DS-2019 with you to the appointment. If you have any questions about ITINs please do not hesitate to email us.
