Are you working, studying or traveling home over the summer? No matter what your summer plan is, all international students with F or J status are required to have insurance coverage over the summer. Student insurance offers many options, so please make sure that you have the insurance that you need over the summer and are not paying for extra insurance you don’t need.
This important insurance deadline for the summer semester is coming up Thursday, June 2, 2022.
Here are some things you need to know about summer insurance:
- Summer waivers for graduate students with insurance through a TA/AI/GRA assignment. Be sure to request an online waiver of the summer student insurance if you will have TA/AI/GRA insurance over the summer. Note that TA spring and fall assignments generally carry insurance benefits over the summer. See the ISSS website for further information about academic assignments and insurance benefits.
- Summer insurance waiver for spring graduates. Are you graduating this spring? Submit a graduation waiver to waive the summer student health insurance. Graduating, but not sure if you will have insurance coverage over the summer? Don’t submit a waiver, and you will retain your insurance coverage through August 31, 2022.
- Student Health Insurance Plan enrollment for students who are NOT in F-1 or J-1 visa status. Only F- and J-status visa holders are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan. Students with any other visa/immigration status may choose to enroll in student health insurance.
- Adding dependent or dental coverage to the student insurance. Dependent (children/spouse) and dental insurance enrollments must be renewed before each academic term (fall, spring, and summer). Please note: This only applies to students enrolled in UT International Student Health Insurance Plan. Add dependent/dental coverage to your student insurance by the deadline.
