Is your I-20/DS-2019 expiring this December? Renew it if you are not graduating yet!
Attention, F-1 and J-1 students: Is your I-20 or DS-2019 expiring this semester?
Do you need more time to finish your studies?
If so, you will need to extend your I-20/DS-2019.
How do I extend my I-20/DS-2019?
First, contact your academic advisor. Ask for their email address and let them know ISSS will be asking them to confirm when you will graduate and why you need the extension. Next, log into myIO and complete the extension request.
F-1 Students: Go to myIO > F-1 Student Services > I-20 Extension Request.
J-1 Students: Go to myIO > J-1 Student Services > DS-2019 Extension Request.
After you complete and submit your request, an ISSS advisor will review it and let you know when your updated I-20/DS-2019 is ready.
When do I need to do this?
As soon as possible! Don’t let your I-20/DS-2019 expire. Once it expires, we can no longer extend it. We recommend submitting your request as soon as possible, with the final deadline being two weeks before your current I-20/DS-2019 end date.
When will I receive my extended I-20/DS-2019?
ISSS receives a high volume of extension requests at the end of the semester. We appreciate your patience as we work through them all. Rest assured that if you submit a complete request on time, we will review it and issue you an updated I-20/DS-2019 before your current one expires.
