Did you attend International Student Orientation when you first arrived at UT? You now have a chance to be one of the friendly student faces welcoming new international students to campus.
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) is currently accepting applications for the International Orientation Volunteer (IOV) program, recruiting graduate and undergraduate students to welcome new international students to the UT campus and introduce them to the longhorn way of life.
As an IOV you will have a chance to volunteer virtually, in-person or both. Serving as an IOV is a great opportunity to gain great leadership experience and meet current and new international students and internationally-minded domestic students.
Are you an Austin or UT Expert? Then we are looking for you to share your expertise. In past years our IOVs have designed and lead fun tours of campus and the surrounding area like the “Best On-Campus Study Spots” tour, or the “Best Bubble Tea and Coffee Shops Around Campus” tour.
IOVs have also taken students on excursions to Zilker Park and downtown, or shared their expertise with them virtually, leading informational sessions on how to get a driver’s license, what to look for when securing housing or how to navigate being a person of color in the US.
There are so many different ways to serve as an IOV, and if you want to volunteer, we will find a job for you. IOVs can:
- Design and lead creative tours of campus or Austin
- Assist at social events
- Lead virtual information session or participate in a virtual panel
- Spotlight international students and orientation events on social media
Still not sure whether being an IOV is right for you? Read what past IOVs have to say about the program or attend one of our upcoming IOV information sessions on April 5th and 7th to learn more about the program.
Submit your application by Wednesday, April 13, 2022. Explore the IOV website to learn about the program and apply. We look forward to receiving your applications!
